Ain't that the truth! Superb article Jessica, it hits every nail on the head. I found myself nodding along to every point you made. It's about time we let go of this idea of being 'productive' just for the sake of it. It's really a subliminal command from the capitalists and corporatists demanding you do more work. Work harder, work faster, be productive and make me more money.

BTW I agree with the idea of having a room of your own. In the UK we have things called garden sheds and because we live in such small houses, that's where the men go to have time to themselves. Most people say it's a man-shed because that's where men go to do men's things, that is 'hobbies'. That might sound selfish but really men go there to be children again. It's an escape from being the 'man of the house' all day long. Somewhere to dream and somewhere to play. There is no reason why women can't do the same thing. We all need a break from adulting all day long.

I also agree that we shouldn't beat ourselves up when we don't get things done. There's many a slip betwixt cup and lip. John Lennon once said 'life is what happens while you are busy making plans'. We need to let go of this idea of constant achievement. Some days just getting through it alive is achievement enough.
