There is a very slim chance that his oligarch chums will realise that if that happens, they will have no safe haven to go to. When Putin becomes the ultimate despot, they won't have their rich houses in Britain to escape to. They won't be able to sail their superyachts out of Putin's reach. If the oligarchs realise this soon enough they might be able to unseat him before this all gets out of control.
