It might sound cynical and nihilistic but civilisation crashing might be the best thing for the planet. Not only will the population be greatly reduced, reducing resource use, but it will allow our wildlife and ecosystems to recover. Without factories churning out useless rubbish the planet might have a chance to recover from all the pollution and CO2 emissions,

We have tried to get humanity to change and not act like greedy selfish bastards but it is not happening. So people are going to continue consuming and assuming that everything is fine because nobody is stopping them. Humanity is charging towards the abyss with our politicians at the front and media waving the flag to spur us on. Like lemmings going over the cliff edge, it will be pointless and stupid and cruel. And like a cliff edge we will keep charging on until the ground disappears beneath our feet.
