One phrase that you missed is 'you won't get people to change'. The fact that the uptake of EVs is surging ahead doesn't seem to filter into the brains of people claiming that 'people won't give up their gas cars'. What they really mean is 'I don't want to give up my gas car even if everyone else is doing it'.

Or 'you won't change peoples eating habits, they will still want to eat meat' despite the huge rise in veganism around the globe and a general agreement that we should all cut back on our meat eating for health reasons.

Too many people hide behind this defeatist slogan that basically says I am not going to change but I am going to blame everyone else for it.
