Sadly, I think a civil war would be too organised and too monochrome or clear cut to exist. There are no clear and decisive 'flags' to rally round. From my side of the pond it looks more like the entire country will degenerate into numerous factions, all fighting against each other, as the resources dwindle and the rule of law breaks down. The rich will retreat behind their battlements with their private armies. The poor will only be concerned with getting whatever they can to survive. The rights groups will become even more radicalised and violent with armed aggression, the white supremisists will gleefully fight allcomers in the belief that this will be a holy crusade to put things right, while the moderates will barrackade themselves in little suburban ghettos to try and make the bad things go away. Meanwhile, the 'preppers' may have had the right idea all along but for the wrong reasons. It won't be a nuclear war or an EMP that knocks civilisation for a six but simple human greed and selfishness. There is a climate crisis right on America's doorstep but no one wants to give up their luxuries for the common good; so it will be dog eat dog until people are shooting each over over the last tin of beans.
