Sorry I have to call bullshit on this. Most of the greatest inventive minds since the founding of America as a nation have come from Europe (and a large proportion from Scotland alone). Even Alexander Graham Bell, who you slyly include in your list of great American inventors was Scottish. So this idea that your so called 'system of freedoms' was responsible for blessing the US is truly laughable. Even Einstein was German and most of the rocket scientists that sent a man to the moon came from Europe after the war.

As for shooting horses. I think you would agree that if those horses were destroying the planet and threatening the very existence of humanity, you advocate getting rid of them as soon as possible. Basically you are trying to say, let's just carry on with our fossil fuel consumption until some smart guy figures out how to get rid of it. Well there are lots of smart people working out how to get rid of it but there are lots of people like you refusing to let go and denying the problem. It's not about having a gradual evolution over many centuries, it about changing as fast as possible to avoid destruction.

We can't afford to let fossil fuel use slowly die out, especially as carbon dioxide emissions are increasing each year. The problem isn't about replacing one technology with another, it's about removing a existential threat to mankind.
