I recently wrote an article where I asked the question “Have those evil old rich guys pressed the self-destruct button”. Not the catchiest of titles but it was to the point and today I think we can answer it with an affirmative. We see the price of gas just keeps going up and up and the Fossil Fuel Industries (for future brevity I am going to call them FFIs) are making unprecedented profits. Even worse none of the governments seem capable of preventing it or penalising this obscene profiteering. And why would they when the politicians in charge are lining their pockets, not just from the FFIs but also the banks and hedge funds.

The more sane politicians and pundits keep pointing out that by driving the poor and working class into poverty, the economy will eventually tank-out and we will be in a deep world-wide depression. When no one can afford your products then you won’t be able to sell them. It is going to signal the end of the consumerist society upon which capitalism ultimately rests.
