You can't call something that was done centuries before it was known that deforestation would cause climate change as hypocrisy. But it is hypocritic to expect other countries to pick up the burden of carbon emissions by paying them money that has been exploited from them through polluting industries.

You also claim that that poorer countries will want the luxuries we expect in the west. I am sure they would rather have enough to eat and a roof over their heads than a new iPhone. It is us that needs to change our priorities and greediness. The west needs to stop expecting to live like kings and help out the planet globally. Adding more pollution to the problem won't help anybody in either the rich or the poor countries. Stop thinking in terms of them and us when it comes to climate change. We are all in the same boat together.
