You may have hit the nail on the head here. I think that ever since he got rich from his original ideas he has swallowed all the hype about him being a genius. His ego loves the idea that he is so smart he can't make mistakes, so he makes excuses for himself whenever things go wrong and even pretends that it was the plan all along. And now its the same with Twitter.

I think his 'plan A' was to take over twitter and make it his plaything. When he realised it wasn't going to plan he immediately made up 'plan B' where he would destroy twitter. When this is all over he will pretend that plan B was his real plan all along.

If you look at his statements about making Twitter some kind of town hall, free speech, application, it all sound so magnanimous. The kind of thing that a supreme egoist would proclaim. a kind of "look at my wonders and bow before my generousity". When that wasn't going to happen, because people called him out on the right wing venom being spewed on the platform, the vision began to look a bit tarnished. The golden god was starting to look a bit tarnished.

So no wonder he took his anger out on Twitter by trying to destroy it. If Twitter wasn't going to be his god-like gift to humanity then it must go. Like a spoilt child that has been sent to his room, he is having a temper tantrum and breaking his toy.

But I also agree that he may have more sinister reasons for destroying Twitter; to disable a platform that spreads information without passing through the corporate filter of media censorship. A platform that can call out corruption, illegal practices, cronyism, exploitation and money hiding, needs to be stopped. The rich don't want their dirty laundry washed in public.

Even worse for liars is that Twitter created accountability. Every tweet that spread a lie could be traced back and exposed. Every statement claiming disinformation or untruth could be held up for scrutiny and questioned. If Twitter survives under Musk, expect it to change so that the history of tweets can be deleted and removed completely. Even retweets will be withdrawn and all traceability will disappear. Propaganda only works when it cannot be checked and verified.
